Last night I was one of the lucky ones to get my hands on a Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft beta key. To say I was thrilled is putting it lightly. This is Blizzards much anticipated online CCG (collectable card game) Unlike other similar games this one is fully digital. Which is cool, it means not having to have tons of space to store physical cards.
Ok let’s talk about the initial logging in and diving into the pool. The opening cinematic was amazing and by the end of it I was literally shaking with excitement. Then it starts you off on the initial tutorial which slowly teaches you the ins and outs to start playing. It was very well done and by the time I got to the 5th and last battle I felt like a seasoned pro. As with any new game there is learning to do, but really this game is not difficult to grasp and start having fun.
There are also some quests which for Warcraft players may cause some groaning, but really it’s not the “go get me 15 bear butts”. They’re fun and easy and really things you’ll be doing as you play the game. Things like getting to level 10 (which isn’t very hard), or playing against a few other players.
The decks. You’ll start off as Jaina Proudmoore which is a mage deck. You can unlock other decks by playing in practice mode against other heroes. I’m still trying to unlock the hunter deck, I’m not surprised I can’t yet since hunters are so awesome. You can also build custom decks with cards you pick up along the way or with cards you buy in the store. I did buy a few booster packs since I wanted the beta store only Gelbin card. 2.99 for 2 packs of 5 cards is not bad at all. You’re also guaranteed to get a rare card (cool!).

I was playing for over 6 hours last night and by the time I looked at the clock it was 2:30am aka way past my bed time.
All in all I am hooked on this game and as I’m typing this out on my phone heading into work I am thinking about how I’m going to work my mage deck so I can finally unlock the hunter. It’s a super fun easy to learn game and a ton of people are live streaming all over the place.
